Financial struggle prevents countless students from achieving their full potential and living their dreams.

Education should never be out of reach, but as college becomes increasingly more expensive, scholarships and other types of financial aid are vital for students who don’t come from wealthy backgrounds. Due to the racial wealth gap, Black American students are in particular need of assistance to access the academic world.

This scholarship aims to support young Black American males who are descendants of enslaved persons in the United States (U.S. Freedmen), who are well-rounded students who excel academically but are in need of financial assistance.

Any graduating Black American (Descendant of U.S. Freedmen) male high school senior who has community service experience and financial need may apply for this scholarship if they’re pursuing STEM or Music (performing arts or education) degrees.

To apply, tell us why you’re pursuing your degree, what your post-college plans are, and what your hobbies are. Additionally, upload a headshot or action shot of your life. 

A successful applicant will:

• Black American Male
• Be a graduating high school senior
• Have been accepted for admission to an accredited college/university.
• Be a U.S. citizen and a direct lineal descendant of Black American Freedmen who were enslaved in the United States.  
• Be available for a personal interview with a selection committee member
• Return completed application and required documents by May 01, 2026
